Classic with nails: See here how we varnish, stretch and handcraft a Dutch Art Giclée Canvas Reproduction in our unique style classic with nails. After stretching the Giclée canvas print on 2 cm thick stretcher bars, we finish the sides of this reproduction of Le Chahut by Vincent van Gogh in a traditional way; we use custom-made nails and hammer them in by hand for that old fashioned look.

Giclée printing: Our reproductions are printed on museum-quality canvas of 380g. We use a Giclée print technique that guarantees over 100 years of colour permanence. The HDR inks are sprayed on the canvas layer by layer, with 800 nozzles per colour x 10 channels for a total of 8000 nozzles.

Varnish: We then apply several coats of varnish by hand to make the colours come to life and to protect against moisture and UV light. The canvas is stretched by hand on stretcher bars made with timber from sustainable forestry.

Le Chahut

This reproduction on canvas of Le Chahut by Georges Seurat is made in close cooperation with the Krӧller-Müller Museum, where the original painting is hanging. The musicians and dancers in this painting are performing the chahut, or cancan, a risqué dance for that period, whereby the women lift their skirts and wave their legs in the air. Seurat is fascinated by the effect of light and colour and he is seeking a systematic method by which to render this effect. He has captured the flamboyant dance in a strict system of countless minutely applied dots of paint, lines and colour combinations.

The complete artwork is bathing in warm colours and mimicking the glowing artificial light. The dancers and musicians appear do not really reflect people of flesh and blood. All lines and movements in the painting evoke the excited atmosphere of dance and music: the dancers' legs, the conductor's hand, the men's moustaches, the corners of the ladies' mouths and eyes, the neck of the double bass, even the flowers in the background. Everything moves in rhythmic repetition and is directed upwards.
