Classic with nails: See here how we varnish, stretch and handcraft a Dutch Art Giclée Canvas Reproduction in our unique style classic with nails. After stretching the Giclée canvas print on 2 cm thick stretcher bars, we finish the sides of this reproduction of La Berceuse (Portrait of Madame Roulin) by Vincent van Gogh in a traditional way; we use custom-made nails and hammer them in by hand for that old fashioned look.

Giclée printing: Our reproductions are printed on museum-quality canvas of 380g. We use a Giclée print technique that guarantees over 100 years of colour permanence. The HDR inks are sprayed on the canvas layer by layer, with 800 nozzles per colour x 10 channels for a total of 8000 nozzles.

Varnish: We then apply several coats of varnish by hand to make the colours come to life and to protect against moisture and UV light. The canvas is stretched by hand on stretcher bars made with timber from sustainable forestry.

La Berceuse (Portrait of Madame Roulin)

This reproduction on canvas of La Berceuse (Portrait of Madame Roulin) by Vincent van Gogh is made in close cooperation with the Krӧller-Müller Museum, where the original painting is hanging in the Van Gogh Gallery. During Vincent van Gogh's stay in Arles, Vincent became friends with the postmaster Joseph Roulin and his wife Augustine. Vincent made several portraits of them and their three children. Here he depicts Augustine as 'la Berceuse', which means she who rocks the cradle or lullaby. She uses the string in her hand to rock her baby's cradle.

Vincent isn't interested in painting photorealistic portraits. Instead he wants to portray a mood. For Vincent, Augustine is a symbol of motherhood. The painting is intended to evoke a feeling of comfort and warmth, just like a lullaby.
