About the original artwork
View of Delft

Johannes Vermeer is a Dutch painter from the 17th century. He was baptized in 1632 in Delft and he was buried there in 1675. He is especially famous for his use of natural light. He painted meticulous compositions of interiors featuring one or two figures, mostly women. These are intimate genre paintings in which the subject is engaged in some everyday activity, usually in the light of a nearby window on the left. Vermeer could render the way light plays on objects like few others. In View of Delft, Vermeers emphasis is not on people, but on the architecture of his hometown.

His masterful representation of light and air is also reflected in this painting. As far as we know, Vermeer made no self-portraits. But in this painting it looks like he shows aspects of his personal life. For instance, he sheds light on the Nieuwe Kerk, where he was baptized. Also you can just see the tip of the Oude Kerk, where he was buried. In addition to this cityscape, only 35 other works by Vermeer are known, of which the Milkmaid and the Girl with a Pearl Earring are the most famous.

Care for your product

Always handle the ceramic gloss tiles with care. They are for interior decorative use. You can clean your tile tableau with a soft cloth and a non-abrasive cleaning product like glassex. Do not hang the tableau in direct sunlight or fading will occur over the years. These tiles are not suitable to mount in a hot area, e.g. above an Aga or behind a stove.
