Classic with nails: See here how we varnish, stretch and handcraft a Dutch Art Giclée Canvas Reproduction in our unique style classic with nails. After stretching the Giclée canvas print on 2 cm thick stretcher bars, we finish the sides of this reproduction of Saul and David by Rembrandt van Rijn in a traditional way; we use custom-made nails and hammer them in by hand for that old fashioned look.

Giclée printing: Our reproductions are printed on museum-quality canvas of 380g. We use a Giclée print technique that guarantees over 100 years of colour permanence. The HDR inks are sprayed on the canvas layer by layer, with 800 nozzles per colour x 10 channels for a total of 8000 nozzles.

Varnish: We then apply several coats of varnish by hand to make the colours come to life and to protect against moisture and UV light. The canvas is stretched by hand on stretcher bars made with timber from sustainable forestry.

Saul and David

This reproduction on canvas of Saul and David by Rembrandt van Rijn is made in cooperation with the Mauritshuis Museum, where the original painting is hanging. Whether this painting was a genuine Rembrandt was in doubt for many years. As a result, it has undergone extensive research and conservation treatment over the past few years. It is now back on display and the verdict is in: Saul and David is indeed a Rembrandt. The Biblical king Saul suffers from bouts of depression and is soothed by the young David who plays the harp for him. In a particularly striking detail, Saul dries his tears on the curtain. But Saul will soon fly into a rage and throw his spear at David.
