Vincent van Gogh - Bridge at Arles (Pont de Langlois)

In 1888, after two years in Paris, Vincent van Gogh moved to Arles in search of sunlight and rural scenery. He quickly became fascinated by the Langlois drawbridge, just south of town.

This painting is one of four versions he made, showing the bridge with a covered wagon crossing the canal. The diagonal waterway adds movement, guiding the viewer's eye across the scene. Inspired by the bright skies and golden light of Provence, Van Gogh filled the work with vivid, cheerful colours.
