Still Life with Strawberries

This reproduction on canvas of Still Life with Strawberries by Adriaen Coorte is made in cooperation with the Mauritshuis Museum, where the original painting is hanging. At the end of the Golden Age, when few still-life artists were active in the Netherlands, Adriaen Coorte painted these kinds of small pearls. His still lifes are remarkably simple with always some fruits, vegetables or shells on a corner of a stone table. They are always painted in such a way that they look almost real. Here you see freshly picked strawberries. Coorte has observed them well and presented them as completely as possible. He shows them from all sides with glittering seeds and a crown here and there. We also see stems, leaves, buds and a radiant white flower.

For the spatial effect, Coorte left 2 strawberries hanging over the edge of the table. The light shines brightly, like from a spotlight, from above onto the still life. As a result, the edge of the table is clearly defined.
