Classic with nails: See here how we varnish, stretch and handcraft a Dutch Art Giclée Canvas Reproduction in our unique style classic with nails. After stretching the Giclée canvas print on 2 cm thick stretcher bars, we finish the sides of this reproduction of Country Road in Provence by Night by Vincent van Gogh in a traditional way; we use custom-made nails and hammer them in by hand for that old fashioned look.

Giclée printing: Our reproductions are printed on museum-quality canvas of 380g. We use a Giclée print technique that guarantees over 100 years of colour permanence. The HDR inks are sprayed on the canvas layer by layer, with 800 nozzles per colour x 10 channels for a total of 8000 nozzles.

Varnish: We then apply several coats of varnish by hand to make the colours come to life and to protect against moisture and UV light. The canvas is stretched by hand on stretcher bars made with timber from sustainable forestry.

The cypress has always been the ultimate symbol of the Provence for Vincent van Gogh. In a letter to his brother Theo he says: "The cypresses still preoccupy me. I'd like to do something with them like I did with the Sunflowers, because I am surprised that no one has yet portrayed the cypresses as I see them. They are beautiful as regards lines and proportions, like an Egyptian obelisk. And the green has such a distinguished quality".

Country road in Provence by night was one of the last paintings he made before leaving the asylum at Saint-Rémy. He composed it at his own discretion (it was not a real existing landscape), maybe he intended it to be a last reminder of Saint-Rémy. During his time at the asylum Van Gogh experiments with his use of colour and brushwork. In many of his works he uses graceful forms and swirling lines. The short, rhythmic wavy brushstrokes placed side by side give this painting great dimensions.
